Finding Joy in Work

Finding joy in creating.

Doing work that is 75% pleasure,
25% real "job".

I would say that is a lovely balance.

When the joy exceeds the drudgery
and we look forward to our work
I think we have found our niche.

I am exploring new possibilities.
New ways to bring income in a jobless world.

A smattering of this and that packaged up into a cohesive whole
and tied with a satin ribbon.

If your dream is a creative business how are you going about building that package?
Let's share some ideas.

Mason Jars for a Wedding

I have been burning the midnight oil working on projects for a friend's mid August wedding.

Her daughter will be married in a field near a pond.
These jars will hang on shepherds hooks and be filled with flowers.

They will line the aisle for the bride and groom.

I have many projects yet to complete.
I hope to share them when I have a moment to spare.

Maybe sometime around 4 am, hahahahaha...
yawn.....
snore.....
drool.....

3 Tips to Motivate a Home Refresh

Like me, you are busy and life gets messy
and sometimes things get away from you.
Family doesn't value a clean tidy home the way you do.
When things begin to slip around here I have a few go to's that will light a fire under my rear to clean and of course rearrange Frippery Farmhouse.
(Serial Rearrangement is a disease and I am one of it's victims.)

#1
Have a party.
I invited a few of the girls I worked with to come for a swim and cocktail party.

So I just had to move my dining room furniture to the family room for a whole new look.

This table has been in three different rooms and moved between them multiple times.
The china cabinet has only moved twice, poor thing.
It needs to get out more.
I filled it with my treasures this time, as opposed to china.
A cabinet of curiosities if you will.

#2
Buy something for resale that is just too cute to linger in the garage.

This little red bench...
Now a doggy feeding station

This colonial style TV stand from the 60's or 70's
turned into a little entry bench with a quick shot of Rustoleum and
some well placed accessories from other rooms.

#3
Find the steal of the century and buy it even though you have no place for it.

OK you cannot fault me for this one.
China cabinet, hutch, 6 chairs and a table
all for $55!!!!
Yes Fifty Five dollars!!!!

It needs paint and some of the cane is broken but I was going to reupholster the chairs anyway.
I peeled red flocked wallpaper from the interior of the china cabinet and began to paint it.
I realized there was no way to finish before my party...
so I threw a few plates in and called it a work in progress.

Now you can see why my former dining room table and curio cabinet had to move.
To make way for this awesome dealio.

Now the trick is not to stop.
Once a girl gets rolling she needs to stay motivated.

Do you have a great motivator that you use to get your move on
when it comes to updating your home?

Now I need to find the perfect fabric and paint colors for my find.

Frippery Does Mid Century

Told ya
it would be like vaca photos...

My little space.
A mid cent home away from home.

I may live in a farmhouse
but I am not above lusting after those 50's 60's and 70's goods.
After all, one girl's vintage is another girl's childhood...

City Flea at Washington Park

As promised...
You can make your escape now, before you are trapped looking at more photos of the weekend.

Much more than the Flea was happening at Washington Park on Saturday.

Walk with me.

Colors of summer.
I wish you could hear the music.

Summertime in the city calls for a splash of clear water.

I would like to take a peek at what  is behind those marvelous orange doors.

If I were a kid again...

what fantasies I could dream up while at play in the castle ruins.

Or I could spend all day on the waterfall steps
in the cool tumble and sparkle.

Can't you just hear the laughter?

Let's head back to my vendor tent and give Joe a break.
Thanks for the stroll.

Ah Cincinnati, what a lovely place to live!

City Flea Sweetest Hangover

As in Love Hangover
with my beautiful city!!!
Frippery's second City Flea,  rain, sun, heat, the World Choir Games.

We have seriously got it Going On...
exhausted right now but there will be pictures...

Lots of pictures,
as in "Do you want to see my vacation photos?" kind of pictures.
If you have never visited Cincinnati now is sooooo the time to see her.
I have always been in love but some are just beginning to see her for all her scrumptiousness.

MmmmKay, gotta get some rest.
But the Flea and Washington Park?
Oh Yeah!

Some to Sell Some to Keep

...and miles to go before I sleep...
Make that before the City Flea.

Actually more like hours before I sleep.
Still packing and sorting, plus painting some awesome finds.
The cute little condiment server goes but Sadie has nabbed the wall pocket for her very own.
She is thinking air plants.
A souvenir plate, perhaps for a world traveling participant of the Choir Games
to take home and treasure.

Still feeding my Syroco obsession.
Pile them on.

Ah yes, todays theme, black and gold.
What is more awesome than mid century barware?
Looooove!

Speaking of love, and the one that stays,
Checkout the mother of all teal glass lamps.
My son Joe has claimed this as his very own.
Yep, I have raised my children to appreciate only the finest junk.

She is a beauty though.

Junk Quirkiness

I am gearing up for City Flea.
This time it will take place in our newly reno'd Washington Park.
That happens to be across from historic Music Hall.
The Flea will be held there on July 14th, also coinciding with the closing ceremonies of the

I Loooooovvvve my awesome city!!!!!
Check out the links and see for yourself.
Cincinnati is fantastic.

I will be sharing a smattering of what I will have for sale at the Flea this week.
Like this awesome b-load of vintage formica chips that may become jewelry, or bling for a chandy or, well, something other than their intended purpose.
If I get to it that is.
I will be packing and sorting and blah blah blah...
but I will surely add more good junk as I pack it up this week.

Oh, as promised, quirkiness.
Not sure if this tray is tragic or terrific.
Yes, that is inlaid glitter.
I am thinking late 60's, early 70's.
Has anyone seen a similar piece?
I am leaning towards terrific for my vote.

This snazzy number is dated 1977.
Imagine it included in a retro themed art wall.
Oh yes you can!
The funky frame...
the orange and brown...
the handmadenessssss...
what's not to love?

Yours in junkyliciousness, P.

PS I WILL be doing the Vintage Marketplace with my fab Junque Magnet buddy Carrie in September.
Excited is such an understatement.

Happy 4th!

Happy Independence Day from Frippery Farmhouse!

Let us celebrate our freedom to be who we are,
say what we want to say,
live as we choose and
support our fellow citizens in their right to do so as well.

Let's remember all who have gone before us and
all who are presently putting their lives on the line to maintain our freedom.
Let's not forget the sacrifices of their families.

Above all let's enjoy family and friends
and raise a toast to living in the USA!
Where else would you want to be?

Whether you are celebrating with a party or just taking it easy, like Chloe,
I hope you have a wonderful day.

Yours in red, white and blue, P.

P.S. Thanks for all the input on the front door color.
I have made a decision and I will share it soon.
