Living Graciously, Artfully, Frugally.

Sunday Winter Stroll and the Twelve Days of Christmas

In this between time I have been mulling over a
simply beautiful Christmas this year at Frippery Farmhouse.
Our whole extended family gathered under our roof.
A house full of love and laughter.
Oh yes... and snow!
A day late but still wonderful fluffy snow.
Now is the cozy break between Christmas and the New Year.

Have you taken down the decorations or do you like to enjoy them a while longer?

At Frippery Farmhouse we celebrate the traditional 12 days of Christmas
and savor the sparkle until Epiphany.

We have even been known to host a Twelfth Night party in lieu of a New Years bash.
Everyone tends to be free that night...

Has you desire for a fresh, clutter free space overcome you?
Are you dismantling as we speak?
Or do you hesitate to say goodbye to the color and cheer?

Frippery Farmhouse will stayed dressed in her party clothes for a while yet.

Then she will slowly pack away her jewels,
one trinket at a time.
Fondly saying farewell until next year to each shiny bauble.

One or two sparkly pieces may even stay for a bit
to brighten the January days.

Of course by January 6th, things do not look as fresh as when we began decking the halls.
But these decorations with which we so lovingly dress our holidays,
always say "Welcome home."

Hope your Christmas was filled with peace and joy,
your holiday season was memorable,
and your New Year will be filled with bright days, P.

My Painted Bedroom Furniture

How to prepare for Christmas guests when...
Sister in Law's family is coming to stay Christmas Eve...
Your bedroom has been in turmoil for over a year....
You have been putting it off for more important things...

You paint and clean like a madwomen and then say
"Wow that didn't take as long as I thought it would."

Do you put off a project because in your mind it will take FOREVER?
Then complete it in a jiffy?

Do you find
an enforced deadline is the best way to get things done?
Where do you head for inspiration?
This time it was the lovely Amy Chalmers at Maison Decor.
She is super talented and has a such great style. A shop to die for too.
Actually two shops.
Living the dream for real.
Introducing the armoire...
Stripes! Love them!
Painterly, imperfect, a little Frenchified.

The brown veneered furniture we have had since our first home
is now much more suited to the new charcoal bedroom walls.
Like new!

A bit more of a beachy feel for the dresser.
Matching colors but not style.

Also we totally revamped the guest room and had guests there Thursday night.
Both kids significant others have birthdays today and tomorrow...
then Christmas!
It is party central here and I am actually ready!

Have you been getting things finished for the season that have been on your to do list?

Hopefully with the sun shining today I may get a few shots of my
Christmas decorating to share with you.
I have so enjoyed seeing all of yours.

Have a Merry Saturday, P.

There was much to share on Friday...

Now just prayers for peace in this world for all who are hurting and need solace and comfort.

Wishing all a quiet and calm and still Christmas shared with those you love.

No words...

just wishes...

for the entire world to find a place of joy amid the sorrow that life brings.

Peace to you my friends, P.

Quick Crafting with Dollar Tree and E6000 Glue.

Dollar Tree crafts make great extra stocking stuffers and hostess gifts.
Fast, frugal and satisfying for busy holidays.

A couple of candle holders and a holder for cupcake papers.
About 10 minutes plus drying time.

What have you been whipping up in a jiffy?

Make a New Tree Skirt from Old Luggage.

Thanks for all of your photo advice!!!
A bit of sunshine and a little manual focus with a tripod.
Simple Photoshop corrections too.
You all gave me some great hints
and I am doing further reading.
You will see a post in the near future here with tips on taking better interior photos.
Not that I know what I am doing...
just sharing a little research and what works here.

Now what do you do when you have that tree decorated top to bottom,
and you are ready for that photo op...
but that bottom has no skirt???

You simply grab what you happen to have on hand.
In this case, a fabulous set of vintage luggage from my friend Carolyn.
Arrange it around the bottom of the tree.
Maybe add an extra odd piece for a bit of contrast.
Then please crop out the cat cleaning herself ...

Quirky vintage tree skirt!
Just in time for playing with those interior photos.

Loving the tree skirt luggage.
Before you run out to find something new
think twice about what you already own.

What bits of everyday are you using in new ways for your holiday decorating?

I am thinking these will make great ornament storage once the season ends!
