Changes for Me and My Home

I have been working around here like a mad woman. Finally got rid of the hideous berber carpet on the stairs.New carpet is definitely NOT in the budget as we are working on starting new businesses. So with the help of a bit of sandpaper and wood putty, molding and caulk, we are making progress.
Ugly plywood builder stairs are turning into lovely white stairs with an older home vibe.
Still need some molding and trim but we are making progress.
Speaking of progress, although hubs has not found a new position as yet he has been working on a few ideas that can take us into retirement working together. When that new job pops up we will have even more options for extra income. It's all good.
In the interest of extra income I have also decided to become a Lia Sophia jewelry advisor. Have you heard of them? I love the line and think I will have some fun. More on that later. Wish me luck. I will be MIA a bit more now, but I promise to post make overs as we complete them.

Have a terrific Tuesday, P.

First Day as Fine Artist and a Chuckle

My baby's first day at college, as a Fine Arts major!!! She has chosen to live at home and commute for now. Saves me from the mommy college blues.
After she rushed off this morning I was reading e-mails and my SIL sent one about my nephew who is a third grader this year. He can be quite comical at times and since he is my brother's youngest and lives nearby I tend to dote on him. I thought I would share this little exchange with you. My SIL's reply made me snort.

SIL's message:This morning Dylan informed me that he changed his mind...his dream job
is not to be a zookeeper anymore. He actually wants to work in a
pancake house. He said that over in Kentucky there is a
Waffle House by
the
revolving restaurant. I have no idea how he knew this. Maybe he's
already doing research on interesting
pancake houses. I wonder if he
knows about IHOP. I still crack up laughing when I remember this
conversation. From
ZooKeeper to Pancake maker.

MY RESPONSE:It is good to keep all his options open and research well before he
makes a commitment! He is a riot.

HER REPLY:I bet pancake college is cheap too!

Hope this gives you a chuckle too, P.

Light Play

I have some real life things to accomplish in this coming week. I thought I would fill my next few posts with images captured while walking through our woods and meadow in the morning. The light hit this little flower just so, creating an ethereal glow.

Time Waits for No Man

...or woman, for that matter. I have been downed by an end of summer cold. I haven't had one like this in years. So, too foggy to write much. Here are the clock face and hands I pulled from my plastic clock/ cloche base.
I don't throw anything away. MMMkay, thats all I have. Time for another nap.
Have a restful day, whatever day this is, P.

Plastic to Pretty

I see so many pieces made of plastic and resin lingering on the thrift store shelves. Things I probably would never dream of picking up. When I saw this plastic clock I walked right by.Came back down the aisle a second time and had an "aha" moment. I picked up a little ceramic veggie type thing from another shelf and with a glass light fixture cover I already had, turned plastic to pretty.
I tore the clock mechanism and clock face from the base. I saved the parts for my daughter's steampunk art and used the clock face and hands elsewhere. (Remind me to show you later.)
Get out the trusty ivory spray paint and ta da!
I know I am going cloche overboard at times but what doesn't look more special under glass?
Now visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for more Metamorphosis Monday projects. Also check out Kimba's DIY Day and Shabby Chic Cottage for Transformation Thursday.
I am sure you will be inspired.

Game Day

Once again we are paying exorbitant prices to keep our 4 Bengal's season tickets and seat license. We should be boycotting but each year at the first game there is such hope.So we will be tailgating and enjoying the first season game along with the rest of the diehards. Maybe this year...???

Have a hopeful Sunday, P.

Cozy Time

Woke up with a stuffy head. Made tea. Walked outside with the dogs. Chilly morning. I love this time of year. Time to cozy up all the corners in our homes and settle in for lovely autumn.

BTW Speaking of cozy, this is what awaited us when we returned from our little trip. Son and girlfriend rescued this starved kitty from near campus. Ummm...no...really kids...we are not a home for wayward animals. How can we move from the country to my dream urban loft downtown with 2, no wait, now 3 dogs and 4...5?...cats?

I have desperately been trying to find kitty a home, you know what happened with this little dog right? Well...we'll see...

Hello!

Sorry for the long time between posts. We had a busy week, an out of town wedding Saturday and our 24th anniversary Sunday. We were just going to hang out at home , but our sweet son got us a room at the Netherland Plaza, where we spent our wedding night before heading off on our Honeymoon.
This hotel is an Art Deco gem. The Carew Tower, home of the Netherland Plaza, was built in 1930 in the French Art Deco style.
Here is a Rookwood tile mosaic found in the arcade area of the building.
No surface is left undecorated, display windows, elevator doors...
even the mailbox is a stunning piece of art.
Utility does not sacrifice beauty in this era. You find yourself transported back to the days when style was a part of daily life.
The workmanship was wonderful.
Gorgeous, right?
Look at the detail!
Art and design encompass every inch of this place.
I could spend hours just marveling at the thought put into each element.
The ceiling of the restaurant, called the Palm Court, is hand painted with murals and of course more deco detail.
The Carew Tower complex is touted as a city within a city. I am proud to say it is in my city. We enjoyed dinner at our favorite restaurant on the Square, Via Vite', then walked down to the riverfront for the WEBN fireworks, an annual Labor Day event for the past 30 years.
We attended the fireworks with friends and my dad the week of our wedding, 24 years ago.
We are still having fun and enjoying our time together. Happy Anniversary honey, I love you more than ever!
Hope you enjoyed my little tour. If you ever come to visit, let's have lunch here, mmmkay?
Hope your end of summer is full of fun.

Have a sparkling Wednesday, P.
